WESTPORT — It’s sure to be a dandy.

The Yankee Doodle Fair, a local springtime tradition, comes to town this week as a fall celebration, courtesy of the Westport Woman’s Club.

The fair, entering its eighth decade, will take place on the club’s grounds at 44 Imperial Ave. from 6-10 p.m. Thursday and Friday, 1-10 p.m. Saturday and 1-5 p.m. Sunday.

Like so many things, the fair was cancelled last year because of the COVID-19 pandemic and, earlier this year, postponed by the WWC from its usual springtime schedule to the fall.

But even though the timing is different, the features that have made the Yankee Doodle Fair an enduring Westport tradition have not changed.

There will be carnival rides and games, raffle prizes, a food court and music. The Sweetcake Mountain Band will perform from 5-7 p.m. Thursday and on Sunday from 3-5 p.m. School of Rock will entertain.

The event is a major revenue source for Westport Woman’s Club programs, including funding for the club’s grants to local community-service organizations and need-based scholarships for Staples High School seniors.
