WESTPORT — Greens Farms Railroad Station’s parking lot No. 1, off New Creek Road, will be closed the evening of April 12 to prepare for collection of household hazardous wastes the next day.

The parking lot will be off limits to commuters from 7 p.m. Friday, April 12, through 5 p.m. Saturday, April 13, according to a joint announcement by the Department of Public Works and the Police Department.

Vehicles left in the lot after the 7 p.m. April 12 deadline to clear the lot will be towed at the owner’s expense, police said.

The free collection of household hazardous wastes is set from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 13, in the rail depot’s parking lot off New Creek Road. The event will take place rain or shine.

Materials that will be accepted include: gasoline, kerosene, spray paint, paint strippers, paint thinners, solvents, paint, stains, turpentine, varnishes and wood preservatives.

Also, degreasers, fertilizers, fungicides, herbicides, insecticides, pesticides, bleach, charcoal lighters, cleaning chemicals, drain cleaners, mercury thermometers, moth balls, pet flea shampoos, photo chemicals, rug shampoos and spot removers.

Materials that will not be accepted include: ammunition, flares and commercial hazardous waste.
