Chuck D, hip-hop pioneer and co-founder of the group, Public Enemy, headlines the April 3 opening night of VersoFest 2024 at the Westport Library.

WESTPORT — “VersoFest 2024,” the Westport Library’s five-day marquee showcase of “music, media and creativity,” kicks off Wednesday with hip-hop pioneer Chuck D.

The third-annual event will feature musical performances, lectures and panels of artists, creators and experts in a wide range of media from Wednesday, April 3, through Sunday, April 7, at the library, 20 Jesup Road.

More than 4,000 people turned out last year for VersoFest performances and programs, and organizers expect the crowds to top 5,000 this year.

Headlining this year’s event is Chuck D, co-founder of the group Public Enemy — known for “Fight the Power” — who will discuss his career, including a recently published graphic novel, “STEWdio: The Naphic Grovel ARTrilogy of Chuck.” He will be joined in conversation by Akashic Books publisher Johnny Temple and media host/music executive June Archer.

Other highlights include Thursday night’s concert with electric pop rockers, The Lemon Twigs, with DJ Hysterica kicking off the evening, and the Friday concert featuring veteran rockers, the Spin Doctors, with Nick Depuy opening.

On Saturday, music producer Tony Visconti will discuss his career, which has included work with David Bowie.

Another feature will be an art installation, “Thinking Inside the Box,” on display throughout the festival.
