Glen Hale

WESTPORT — Glen Hale has been named the new chief executive officer of the Westport Weston Family YMCA.

Hale had been serving as the organization’s interim CEO since last August. The YMCA’s chief financial officer at the time, he took on the additional executive responsibilities after Anjali McCormick stepped down.

Hale’s appointment is effective immediately, the WWFY said in a Wednesday announcement.

He has more than 25 years’ experience in non-profit organizations; is also a certified public accountant, and has a lifelong interest in athletics and sports, according to the announcement.

Hale’s “extensive experience, financial acumen and deep commitment to our mission make him the ideal leader to guide our organization into its next chapter of growth and community impact,” Juliane Sunderland, the YMCA board’s president, said in a statement.

“With Glen at the helm, alongside our strong leadership team, we are confident in our ability to move forward and achieve our goals.”

Hale, in the statement, said he is “honored and excited to take on this role.

“The WWFY has a rich history of serving our community, and I’m eager to build upon that legacy by expanding our program portfolio and strengthening community partnerships,” he added.

“Having relocated from New York to Connecticut 20 years ago, my family and I have developed a deep personal connection to this community.”

The WWFY, under Hale’s leadership, has received the Praesidium Accreditation for safety programs.

It also recently reached its membership capacity of 12,500, under an agreement brokered with the town, with more than 1,000 people waiting to join. It also had record participation levels for this winter’s programs, according to the announcement.
