FAIRFIELD — The role of the nation’s first state prison and its use in the Revolutionary War will be the focus of a presentation at the Fairfield Museum and History Center this week.

The Catacomb of Liberty: A Deep Dive Into New-Gate’s Role in the American Revolution will take place at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 7th. The museum is welcoming Morgan Bengel, the curator and site administrator for Old New-Gate Prison & Copper Mine in East Granby, to discuss how the prison’s history relates to the founding of the United States and early laws relating to recognition of the new nation. New-Gate Prison was used to imprison Loyalists in harsh conditions during the Revolutionary War.

The presentation is part of the Fairfield Museum and History Center’s programming related to the 250th anniversary of the United States, and there is a suggested donation of $5. For more information, click here.
