WESTPORT — Every dog will have its day, but with the threat of inclement weather Sunday, that day will have to wait another week — the Westport Dog Festival has been postponed to Oct. 17.

The festival’s sponsor, the Westport-Weston Chamber of Commerce, announced Friday that because rain and wind is forecast for this Sunday, the initially scheduled date, the event has been rescheduled until a week later.

The fifth festival celebrating all things canine is now set to take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 17, at Winslow Park. A new rain date for the event is Oct. 24.

“The goal is always to have a fun, safe and dry event,” Matthew Mandell, the chamber’s executive director, said in announcing the postponement. “This is the prudent decision based on the forecast. We have been through this before and we look forward to a great festival next weekend.”
