WESTPORT — A town-organized program links older adults who may need help with outdoor chores and local high and middle school students looking for work.

The seasonally adjusted list of students, managed by the town Department of Human Services, provides referrals for older residents looking for assistance with tasks like snow shoveling, lawn and yard work, and other outdoor work. Compensation for student workers of $16 hourly is recommended by program organizers, but the final fee is negotiated by the two parties.

  • Older adults interested hiring a student worker to tackle outdoor chores should contact the Department of Human Services by calling 203-341-1050 or emailing humansrv@westportct.gov.
  • High and middle school students interested in job opportunities through the program should also contact DHS at 203-341-1050 or humansrv@westportct.gov. Students need written permission from a parent or guardian to participate in the program.
