The Registrars of Voters office in Westport is responsible for administering local, state and federal elections in accordance with state and federal laws.

The Democrat and Republican registrars process new voter registrations, manage changes to voters’ party affiliations, and conduct a mandatory annual canvas to ensure voter registrations are up-to-date and accurate.

The registrars also plan for and carry out all federal, state and municipal elections, primaries and referendums, including early voting and mail-in and absentee ballots.

Also, the registrars hire, appoint and provide mandated certification training for poll workers and election day officials prior to an election.

Lastly, the registrars coordinate the set-up, security and staffing of polling places in Westport; ensure the programming, maintenance, transportation and storage of town voting machines and tabulators; conduct voter registration sessions at local venues; and regularly attend Registrars of Voters Association of CT conferences and training held by the Office of the Secretary of the State to ensure they adhere to updated election statutes.

The job has a flexible, part-time schedule but requires extended hours during election cycles and on election days.
