WESTPORT–Three candidates vying to represent the 4th Congressional District in Congress will debate on Oct. 19 at The Westport Library.

The debate, hosted by the League of Women Voters, will take place, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The general election takes place on Nov. 3.

Incumbent Jim Himes, 60, a Democrat seeking a 10th two-year term; Michael Goldstein, 76, a Republican attorney, ophthalmologist and ophthalmic surgeon; and Benjamin Wesley, 48, an Independent and engineer, are the debate participants.

“The League of Women Voters is committed to furthering civic engagement by an informed electorate, and candidate debates are a key element of voter education,” Joan Hogan Gillman, Westport’s LWV president, said in a press release. “We are delighted to partner with other Lower Fairfield County chapters to host this debate and welcome residents from all towns within Connecticut’s 4th Congressional District to attend.”

Residents in Connecticut’s 4th Congressional District can submit questions for the debate through the registration link or by sending an e-mail to LWVCongress4Debate@gmail.com. The deadline to submit questions is Oct. 12.

The state’s 4th Congressional District includes Bridgeport, Darien, Easton, Fairfield, Greenwich, Monroe, New Canaan, Norwalk, Oxford, Redding, Ridgefield, part of Shelton, Stamford, Trumbull, Weston, Westport and Wilton.
