WESTPORT — The town’s four main congregations brought the community together for the fourth night of Hanukkah Wednesday evening with a public menorah lighting.

Beit Chaverim Synagogue, Chabad Lubavitch of Westport, TCS (The Conservative Synagogue), and Temple Israel, in cooperation with the Westport Downtown Association, lit up the night at the northeast corner of Main Street and the Post Road with a giant menorah.

Along with some 50 visitors, First Selectwoman Jennifer Tooker took part in the ceremony, lighting the candles that represent the center of this annual Festival of Lights.

“Those things that are meaningful are done again and again, not just once,” Rabbi Jeremy Wiederhorn of TCS said of the value of annual events and celebrations.

“So we’re thrilled to continue this,” he said.
