WESTPORT — Fans of amateur radio can ham it up this weekend at Westport Astronomical Society’s “Winter Field Day” event.

Activities are planned 11 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 25-26, at the WAS headquarters, 182 Bayberry Lane.

The group’s amateur radio station, “K1WAS,” will be activated for the annual event, described as “a practical field exercise designed to push your emergency preparedness skills to the limit and test your capabilities in diverse and demanding conditions.”

Ham radio enthusiasts are invited to attend the program, based in the observatory classroom, whether or not they have amateur radio licenses. The group plans to operate three stations during the exercise.

Those who would like to operate during the event should fill out this form, according to program organizers.
