
FAIRFIELD – Returning to the Fairfield Museum and History Center for its 20th year, the Holiday Express Train Show is sure to delight railroad enthusiasts of all ages.
The show’s grand opening will take place on Saturday, Nov. 29, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The opening will take place after Fairfield’s tree and menorah lighting ceremony, and admission is $3 per person or $10 for a family of four. After the opening, the train show will be included with general admission during the museum’s regular hours.
The Holiday Express Train Show is sponsored by the Hatfield Insurance Agency, and is being organized with the assistance of the Connecticut G-Scalers Club and The Housatonic Model Railroad Club.
Several special events at the Fairfield Museum and History Center are taking place alongside the show, including:
- All Aboard Storytime: Starting at 9:30 a.m. each Tuesday from Dec. 2 to Dec. 23, the museum will offer a railroad themed story. This event is recommended for ages three and up.
- Santa Visit: Santa Claus will visit the show on Saturday, Dec. 6, and give families a chance to take holiday pictures in front of the model railroad display. Museum members can enjoy an exclusive visit from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., and Santa will greet all visitors from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
- Build a Train Family Workshop: Families can build and paint their own wooden train and create a holiday landscape for it. Workshops are available at 10 a.m., 12 p.m., and 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 13. Admission is $15 for one adult and one child, and registration is required.
- Drop-In Holiday Crafts: The museum is hosting special Santa’s Workshop events between Wednesday, Dec. 24th and Friday, Jan. 2nd. Paint-a-train activities are available on three days, and the cost is $5 per craft.
