WESTPORT — Actor James Naughton will discuss his advocacy for adoption of the “Medical Assistance in Dying Act” in Connecticut at the Sept. 22 meeting of the Westport Sunrise Rotary Club.
The meeting, open to the public, starts at 7:45 a.m. Friday, Sept. 22 — with Naughton expected to speak about 8:15 a.m. — at Greens Farms Congregational Church, 71 Hillandale Road.
Members of the public who would like to attend are asked to register by emailing Liz Wong, the club president, at info@WestportSunriseRotary.org.
Naughton, a two-time Emmy Award winner and Weston resident, has been advocating for the state to enact legislation allowing terminally ill adults to submit written requests for lethal medication. Under the proposal, adult residents of Connecticut for at least a year who have a terminal illness with less than six months to live, could submit two written requests for lethal medication at least 15 days apart.
Naughton has a personal interest in the cause because of the end-of-life experience of his late wife, Pamela, according to publicity for the program.
