WESTPORT — A reception marking the recent publication of “EXPOSED: The Lost Negatives and Untold Stories of Michael Friedman,” will take place Sept. 21 at WEST, 117 Post Road East.

The book by Friedman, a Westport native and longtime music producer and manager, showcases photos he took of legendary rock performers in the 1960s and ’70s, some never seen before publicly. It was co-authored by Donna Vita.

The store’s reception, which starts at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 21, will include a discussion and book signing by Friedman. To register to attend the free event, click here.

Friedman, who began working in the music business in the mid-’60s, met a range of rising musicians who became icons in the field. They include: Janis Joplin, the Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, George Harrison, the Band, Levon Helm, Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Johnny Winter, Gordon Lightfoot and Rita Coolidge.

Friedman recorded images of musicians over the years, although the negatives for many of the photos were lost — until recently. The book features 200 of those photos, as well stories about his subjects.

A portion of the proceeds from the event, including 20 percent of limited edition print sales, will be donated to Neighborhood Studios, a non-profit providing after-school arts education for children in Bridgeport, according to event organizers.

Attendees also will have a chance to win signed copies of “EXPOSED” and tickets to the Sound on Sound Music Festival in Bridgeport from Sept 30-Oct. 1.
