WESTPORT — Shopping takes to the streets next Saturday.

The first of two outdoor shopping events this year is planned along Main Street from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, June, 18, organized by the Westport Downtown Association.

The merchants’ group was granted permission by the Board of Selectwomen in March to close off Main Street, between Post Road East and Elm Street, allowing stores to set out wares along the thoroughfare. A second outdoor shopping event is planned Aug. 20.

To accommodate plans to set up and disassemble the outdoor displays of merchandise, the affected stretch of Main Street will be closed to traffic from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, according to police.
