WESTPORT — Demolition work at the former Westport Inn property, which began last spring, appears complete, with construction of new sections of the Delamar Westport now underway.
The site at 1595 Post Road East, which for years was Westport’s main hotel, is being rebuilt under the new ownership of the Greenwich Hospitality Group. It will be the group’s latest Delamar-branded luxury hostelry, which includes the nearby Delamar Southport.
Developers said the Delamar Westport should be completed by fall 2024, as well as the group’s sixth hotel in Mystic.
The Planning and Zoning Commission approved a revision of the original plans for the new hotel, now with 86 rooms, last February. That design decreases the number of rooms in the Delamar from 117 rooms when it functioned as the Westport Inn.
The new hotel also will have a restaurant and indoor swimming pool.
The approved project calls for the front portion of the building to be demolished and rebuilt, while the rear segment of the complex is being retained and remodeled.
The new hotel is being developed on the same 3.8-acre Post Road East site occupied by the Westport Inn, which had operated there since the early 1960s before closing in late 2021.
