WESTPORT — Five restaurants can now claim to be part of Westport’s upper crust as winners in this year’s “Great Westport Pizza Contest,” sponsored by the Westport-Weston Chamber of Commerce.

Nearly 2,000 ballots were cast in the month-long contest, with 14 local pizza purveyors vying for honors in the eight contest categories, according to the chamber.

Winners in each of the categories are:

Best plain pizza: Pizza Lyfe 

Best slice: Outpost Pizza 

Best meat pizza: Old Mill Grocery & Deli 

Best veggie pizza: Old Mill Grocery & Deli 

Best personal pizza: Romanacci 

Best flatbread pizza: La Plage 

Best delivered pizza: Outpost Pizza 

Best gluten-free pizza: Romanacci

“It was a fun event, so many people told me they went to eat pizza and voted,” Matthew Mandell, the chamber’s executive director, said in a publicity release.

“I personally ate pizza at every one of the restaurants and loved it all.”
