Two art exhibits — “Word: Visual vs. Verbal” and “Piece by Piece” — are on view this summer at the Westport Library starting June 20.

WESTPORT — Two exhibits showcasing work by Artists Collective of Westport members will be on display starting June 20 at the Westport Library.

“Word: Visual vs. Verbal,” in the Sheffer and South galleries, and “Piece by Piece,” in the Jesup Gallery, both open Thursday, June 20, at the library, 20 Jesup Road.

In “Word: Visual vs. Verbal,” artists will exhibit works “in the medium of their choice — all inspired by a single word,” according to publicity for the display.

“Piece by Piece” is a 6-by-8-foot installation composed of 12-inch squares made by 48 artists. Given a 6-inch square section of a contemporary painting, artists created pieces “replicating a part of the larger painting in their own style without knowing what the final exhibit will look like,” according to the exhibit publicity.

The completed “Piece by Piece” installation will be unveiled at a reception at 6:30 p.m. June 20.

Each “Piece by Piece” square can be bought for $100, with half the proceeds supporting library art programs and half going to the artist. Works in “Word: Visual vs. Verbal” also are on sale with some proceeds benefiting library arts programs.
