Award-winning filmmaker Andrew Goldberg’s new documentary, “White with Fear,” to be screened May 29 at Westport Library. The Westporter will appear afterward to discuss the movie.

WESTPORT — “White with Fear,” a new documentary by Andrew Goldberg, award-winning filmmaker and Westport resident, exploring how race has been exploited to polarize American politics, will be screened May 29 at the Westport Library.

The documentary features interviews reflecting different perspectives on the divisive issue — including former Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and MAGA political strategist Steve Bannon — delving into “the decades-long strategy of politicians and media outlets to amplify racial divisions and white victimization narratives for power and profit,” according to a publicity statement for the film.

The free screening will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 29, in the library’s Trefz Forum, 20 Jesup Road. To reserve a seat, click here.

Goldberg, the recipient of an Emmy Award and other honors for his work, will be on hand afterward to discuss issues raised by the documentary.

“I am so happy to be able to show this film in Westport. A lot of the interviews were actually filmed here in town, and some right in the Westport Library,” he said.

“I think living in the suburbs sometimes we can feel a little disconnected from everything happening in national politics,” he added, “so I am happy to be able to show the film here in our hometown of Westport.”

“White With Fear” focuses on “the real-world consequences of manipulative tactics that seek to demonize immigrants, spread Islamophobia and deploy a cynical and strategic campaign of racist rhetoric with real world effects,” the publicity announcement states.
