WESTPORT — Three concerts featuring Broadway performers taped late last summer at the Westport Country Playhouse will be in the national television spotlight in January.
“Stars on Stage from Westport Country Playhouse,” filmed before local audiences live in August and September, will be broadcast in three weekly programs at 9 p.m. Fridays, Jan. 7-21, by the PBS television network and its social-media platforms.
“Stars on Stage” showcases Broadway actors Gavin Creel (“Hello, Dolly!” “The Book of Mormon”) on Jan. 7; Shoshana Bean (“Wicked,” “Waitress”) on Jan. 14, and Brandon Victor Dixon (NBC’s “Jesus Christ Superstar,” “Hamilton”) on Jan. 21.
“PBS is delighted to celebrate the return of musical performance with these three new concert specials,” Zara Frankel, the director of PBS programming and development, said in an announcement about the broadcasts.
“There’s nothing quite like the excitement of live performance and sharing that experience has always been central to our mission, now more than ever,” she said.
Andrew C. Wilk, a resident of Westport and creator/executive producer of the concert series, said, “Gavin Creel, Shoshana Bean and Brandon Victor Dixon light up the stage of Westport Country Playhouse, and we can’t wait for millions of viewers to experience their phenomenal talents on the singular platform that is PBS.”
In addition to PBS television stations, including Connecticut Public Television, the concerts will be available via PBS.org and the PBS Video app.
