WESTPORT — A concert of jazz music will be performed March 11 by an ensemble of student musicians, joined by seasoned mentors, at Voices Café at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Westport.

The event, featuring the BackCountry Jazz BeBoppers, gets underway at 8 p.m. Saturday, March 11, at the congregation, 10 Lyons Plains Road.

The BackCountry Jazz BeBoppers student performing ensemble was organized “to transform young lives and build community through the power of music,” according to a publicity release, “with high-quality music programs for underserved youth.”

The BeBoppers include: Ciara Bustillo-Rodriguez, Peyton Edwards and Sandra Ventura, all on flute, Kevin Guy on piano, Ashley Hines on alto saxophone, Vinton Hines, Jr., on drums, Joanna Louisime with vocals, Caleb Schmale on tenor saxophone and Deborah Smith on trombone.

Joining the students for the Westport show will be guest artist and mentor Aaron Goldberg on piano and music educator and composer Matt Dwonszyk on bass.

Concert proceeds will benefit BackCountry Jazz music education programs.
