WESTPORT — “A Sherlock Carol,” a production that imagines a Christmastime encounter between Sherlock Holmes and Ebenezer Scrooge, will be staged Dec. 17-22 at the Westport Country Playhouse.

The show, described as “family friendly” by the playhouse, will be presented at 7 p.m. Dec. 17-21, as well as 2 p.m. Dec. 20-22, at the theater, 25 Powers Court.

“A Sherlock Carol,” written and directed by Mark Shanahan, the Westport Country Playhouse artistic director, was nominated for a 2022 Off-Broadway Alliance Award for Best New Play and selected as a “Critics’ Pick” by The New York Times.

The production, Shanahan said in a publicity statement, “is a tale of the resurrection of the spirit in which Sherlock Holmes, in a fit of despair, struggles his way back from a dark place. He is guided by the spirit of Ebenezer Scrooge, who charges Holmes with becoming his best self and living up to his famed talents as the world’s foremost consulting detective.”

The six-person cast, reprising their roles from the theater’s production last year, includes Drew McVety as Sherlock Holmes, Byron St. Cyr as Ebenezer Scrooge, Joe Delafield, Dan Domingues, Isabel Keating and Sharone Sayegh.

Donations collected for area charities

During the run of “A Sherlock Carol,” the playhouse will be collecting donations for four area charities — the Domestic Violence Crisis Center, Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, Norwalk Toys for Tots and the Homes with Hope food pantry.
