WESTPORT — The musical and artistic talents of Westport students will be showcased at two events in the coming weeks.
On Friday, June 10, the annual Westport Pops Concert will be performed by Staples High School musicians at the Levitt Pavilion.
The concert, set for 7 p.m., will feature the Staples High School Symphonic Orchestra and Band, Jazz Ensemble, Orphenians, Choralaires and other smaller ensembles. The pavilion doors open at 5:30 p.m.; concert goers should bring their own seating.
Tickets for the event are free and available on a first-come, first-served basis by visiting the Staples Music website.
In case of inclement weather, the concert will be performed at the same time in the auditorium of Staples High School, 70 North Ave.
All-grades art show at MoCA
Art by students in the Westport schools’ visual arts program will be featured in an exhibition, “SPARK,” at MoCA Westport, 19 Newtown Turnpike.
The exhibit, showcasing artwork by students from kindergarten through high school, opens with a reception at noon Sunday, June 12. It runs through June 19.
During the reception, funds raised by the sale of pottery crafted by Staples High School students, will benefit the Open Door Shelter in Norwalk.
The show, curated by Staples students, is designed to be an “expressive platform for students in visual arts to demonstrate multiple ways of knowing and learning that are inherent in the unique nature of each child,” according to a publicity announcement.
