WESTPORT — Shonda Rhimes, renowned television producer and author, will be The Westport Library’s “Booked for the Evening” guest at its 23rd annual event on June 1, 2022.

In 2021, as well as in 2007, Rhimes was named by Time as one of the 100 most influential people in the world.

CEO of the global media company Shondaland, Rhimes’s company has sought to reinvent storytelling through a variety of innovative methods. In the process she has garnered numerous awards, including induction into the Television Academy Hall of Fame.

“From Grey’s Anatomy to Bridgerton, to her latest television series Inventing Anna, Shonda Rhimes is recognized as one of the most inspiring creative forces working in media today,” said Bill Harmer, executive director.

“Ms. Rhimes epitomizes the intent behind the ‘Booked’ honor,” he said, “to recognize an individual whose work reflects the purpose of the library — to nurture the love of learning and to enhance our understanding of the world.”

Creator of Grey’s Anatomy, other shows she has executive produced include Scandal and Station 19. A native of Chicago, in 2015 she authored a memoir entitled Years of Yes: How to Dance It Out, Stand in the Sun and Be Your Own Person.

“Booked for the Evening” is the library’s signature fundraising event, with past honorees including Alan Alda, E.L. Doctorow, Calvin Trillin and Martin Scorsese.
