WESTPORT–For over 50 years, the Levitt Pavilion has been a staple of summer entertainment in Westport. Since its founding in 1974, the Pavilion has offered free and lively performances for the community, transforming what was once a town dump into a renowned center for music and arts. Founded through the efforts of Westport philanthropists Mortimer and Mimi Levitt, the Pavilion is now one of the longest-running outdoor concert series in the country. 

Over the years, the Levitt Pavilion has hosted countless artists, including Roberta Flack, Sheryl Crow, Nile Rodgers and José Feliciano, to name a few (on Sunday, Aug. 9 Bonnie Raitt will perform at 7 p.m.).Over time, the Pavilion has grown a reputation not only due to the artists that grace its stage, but also due to its annual children’s series. 

The children’s series, a string of free and often interactive shows held every Wednesday during the summer, has become a yearly tradition in Westport, and this year has been no exception. On Aug. 5, the Pavillion hosted Grammy nominee Flor Bromley. Bromley, who was nominated for Best Children’s Music Album for her album Herstory, performed for an hour, blending music and storytelling. 

Next Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2021 Grammy winner Joanie Leeds will take the stage at 7 p.m., followed by this year’s Grammy winners Fyütch & Aura V on Aug. 19. Both artists won the Grammy for Best Children’s Music Album, with Aura V breaking the record for youngest winner, at 8 years old. As with every performance in the children’s series, admission is free, and families are encouraged to bring their own chairs or blankets.
