
WESTPORT – A Connecticut-based bluegrass band will present a lively evening of music next month at Voices Cafe.
The concert will begin at 8 p.m. on Saturday, December 6. Doors open at 7:30 p.m., and tickets can be purchased here for $25.
On the Trail is a “modern acoustic band that “modern acoustic band that explores everything from bluegrass to contemporary pop, blending stunning instrumentals with traditional songs.” Members include Austin Scelzo (fiddle), Tom Polizzi (mandolin), Charlie Widmer (guitar), and Matt Curley (upright bass); each musician also provides vocals.
The band has been winning recognition for its skill at challenging music, as well as its original songs. On The Trail was praised in Static Noise Magazine for its “standout songwriting, tight musicianship, and that rare ability to honor tradition while pushing it forward,” and by Shari Elder of the Thomas Point Beach Bluegrass Festival for combining “exquisite musicianship, superb vocals, professionalism, and audience appeal.”
On The Trail participated in the 2021 Telefunken Battle of the Bands at the Podunk Bluegrass Festival, won the 2022 Thomas Point Beach Band Competition, and was named Emerging Artist at the Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival in 2023. In addition to their self-titled EP released in 2019, the band’s album Where Do We Go From Here debuted in 2024.
Voices Cafe offers a coffeehouse-style setting within the Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Westport, and guests are allowed to bring their own beverages and snacks. Concerts at the venue support social justice programs in the local community, including racial justice, gender equity, immigration, literacy, reproductive justice, food insecurity, and gun violence prevention.
