WESTPORT — An exhibition of floral artwork will open with a floral-themed flourish May 11 at Sorelle Gallery.

The “Awakening” opening reception, with a percentage of sales proceeds benefiting Earthplace, will take place from 3-5 p.m. at the gallery, 19 Church Lane. The event is open to the public at no charge.

The exhibit, on display through June 1, will showcase a range of floral images interpreted in different styles by artists Kay Flierl, Christine Averill-Green, Linda Bigness, Juniper Briggs, Elizabeth Iadicicco and others.

The reception, in keeping with the artwork theme, will feature a specialty floral cocktail along with light refreshments.

Other features will include: At 3:30 p.m., Amber Hogan of Harborview Cakes will demonstrate piping  buttercream flowers, while attendees sample her sweet floral decorations, and at 4 o’clock, Miranda Gould of New Petal Flower Farm will show how to fashion bouquets.

A percentage of artwork sales from the month-long exhibit, as well as from the sale of floral cupcakes and cakes by Harborview Cakes and floral arrangements by New Petal Flower Farm, will be be donated to Earthplace, according to publicity for the exhibition.

“This show and corresponding opening event bring together amazing creative elements to celebrate the spring season, while also spotlighting incredible women-run local businesses to benefit a wonderful cause at Westport’s own Earthplace,” Sandy Pelletier, the Sorelle Gallery owner, said in the publicity release.

“And, our hope is that the reception, which combines art, flowers, cake and cocktails, will be a fun stop for Mom on the itinerary this coming Mother’s Day weekend.” For questions or more information, contact Sorelle Gallery at 203-920-1900 or info@sorellegallery.com.
