WESTPORT — An exhibit of “knifed watercolors” by painter Marian Christy opened Saturday at MoCA Westport.

A reception for the display of more than 300 watercolor paintings, “From the Knife to the Pen,” was attended by the artist, now 90 years old.

The exhibition runs through Nov. 27 at the museum, 19 Newtown Turnpike.

Knifed watercolors, according to a MoCA publicity release, is a technique Christy developed using “only palette knives and puddles of paint. No drawing and no brushes.”

Before Christy devoted herself to painting, she was a Pulitzer Prize-nominated journalist at the Boston Globe.

Docent-led tours of “From the Pen to the Knife” are available Thursday afternoons, with advance registration requested. Admission to the museum is complimentary after 4 p.m. Thursdays.
