WESTPORT — Niki Ketchman has been selected as the February artist of the month at the Westport Book Shop.

Ketchman’s works on exhibit are from her “Resination” series, whose title is a play on such words as resonations, resolutions, renovations or realizations, combined with the fact that each is coated with resin, according to the store’s announcement of the exhibit.

The display can be seen during regular business hours through the end of the month at the book shop, 23 Jesup Road.

Ketchman begins each piece with an image either painted directly on a canvas or printed on archival, watercolor paper and adhered to the canvas, the exhibit announcement states.

After other elements are added, the piece is coated with resin, which Ketchman says makes the work more of an object, makes it shine and gives it a feeling of extra depth, according to the store.

A sculptor and collagist, Ketchman uses welding, sewing, weaving, braiding, winding, draping and decorating to create her works. They have been showcased in one-person exhibitions at the Katonah Museum, the New Britain Museum of American Art, and the DeCordova Museum and Sculpture Park, as well as group shows at the Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art, the Bruce Museum, Grounds for Sculpture and the Neuberger Museum of Art.

Her work is included in the Westport Public Arts Collections, the New Britain Museum of American Art, the National Museum of Women in the Arts and the Housatonic Museum of Art.
