WESTPORT—The work of Westport artist Darcy Hicks is featured this month at The Westport Book Shop’s Drew Friedman Art Place. Hicks is exhibiting a collection of tree paintings, using oil paint and metal leaf on canvas.

In a promotional release for the exhibit, Hicks said “I am interested in how art can begin a relationship with nature, and use reflective materials to invite the viewer to move, resulting in a kind of conversation with the canvas.”

Hicks is the Director of Education at The Norwalk Art Space, which, among other things, provides free art and music education to students of all means, nurturing their creativity and potential.  A Westport native, Hicks holds a BFA from Smith College, a Masters of Education from Lesley University, and an MFA in Creative Writing from Fairfield University.

Hicks’ artwork will be on exhibit at the Book Shop through Nov. 30. All artwork on display is available for purchase.  25% of the proceeds will be donated to the Arbor Day Foundation, which has planted half a billion trees and is actively responding to the destruction of trees caused by the Los Angeles fires.

A reception for Hicks and her artwork will take place tomorrow, Wednesday, Nov. 12, at the Westport Book Shop, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.  Space is limited; please RSVP to the Book Shop by phoning 203-349-5141 or sending an email to RSVP@westportbooksaleventures.org

The art exhibit is open to the public during the Book Shop’s regular business hours:
