WESTPORT–The three candidates for Westport first selectman will discuss sustainability and the environment in an upcoming forum presented by Sustainable Westport and Earthplace, the nature preserve and environmental education center.

The event will take place Oct. 6 at Branson Hall, Christ & Holy Trinity Church, 75 Church Lane, Westport, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. All three candidates have accepted the invitation to participate, organizers said.

Democrat Kevin Christie, Republican candidate Don O’Day and Independent Party candidate David Rosenwaks are vying for the town’s top elected position in the Nov. 4 vote.

At the forum, residents will hear directly from the candidates as they share their perspectives, priorities and proposed solutions and action plans for various environmental challenges that Westport faces. Discussion topics will include:

  • Clean energy initiatives
  • Waste reduction strategies
  • Climate resiliency planning
  • Westport’s long-term sustainability goals

Following the moderated discussion, attendees are invited to continue the conversation informally at Emmy Squared Pizza, 1 Church Lane, organizers said.

“This event gives our community a chance to engage with the candidates in a meaningful way on issues that will shape Westport’s future,” said Johanna Martell, co-director of Sustainable Westport. “We invite residents to submit questions that draw out the candidates’ core values and priorities, as well as specific, actionable strategies to address the urgent problem of climate change and how Westport can be part of the solution.”

Attendance is free, but organizers encourage interested residents to register in advance. Residents may also submit questions for the candidates when reserving a spot.
