WESTPORT–It is beautiful today, but it’s been a pretty sweltering summer so far. But Westport residents can get at least one form of relief – in their home electric bill.

HeatSmart Westport, a partnership of Sustainable Westport, the Town of Westport and People’s Action for Clean Energy (PACE), offers residents a way to cut their costs – typically by $180 per year – and use energy more sustainably.

It starts with a Home Energy Solutions (HES) audit from an Energize CT-certified technician. An $800 value in services and materials, it typically costs $75 through HeatSmart Westport and is free for income-eligible residents. It’s also free for anyone who signs up by Aug. 31 and schedules their appointment from now through October.

The audit will recommend ways to insulate your home and make other improvements to the envelope. The program also encourages residents to consider a switch to a heat pump for a heating and cooling source.

The program is designed to help residents make informed choices about improving comfort, efficiency and affordability. Even households with a prior HES audit are eligible for another if the first was completed before 2019.

“We encourage every household in Westport to take advantage of this opportunity,” program leaders said in a release. “Whether the focus is lowering utility bills, improving indoor air quality, or shrinking your carbon footprint, HeatSmart Westport provides practical support and clear next steps. Together, we can build a cleaner, more resilient Westport — one home at a time.”
