


WESTPORT — The Staples boys golf team followed up a strong stretch of matches with a solid showing Thursday in the annual Chappa Tournament at Longshore.
In a Sept. 30 match, the Wreckers beat Ridgefield 142-150 on the road led by Gus Palmer’s 32.
On Oct. 1 Staples beat St Joseph of Trumbull in an away match 151-174 as George Targowski shot a 36.
The Wreckers beat Greenwich at home 144-152 behind Gus Palmer’s 35 on Oct. 2.
Staples closed out the regular slate at home against Ludlowe with a 147-156 win on Oct. 8, with Sawyer Dalzell shooting a 34.
The Wreckers are gearing up for the Oct. 17 FCIAC championships and got into tournament mode with the Chappa tourney. Weather was brisk and windy but sunny. There were 29 two-man teams that participated.
Gus Palmer, Phillip Sullivan, Chris Taylor, Sawyer Dalzell, George Targowski, Lukas Snow, Charlie Curran and Jordan Benederet were the players for Staples, which had the sixth best score.
Longshore is a par 35-34 69 course. Fairfield Prep won the event with an 8 under score of 61.
