
WESTPORT — Video productions by six Westport student groups were cited in this year’s Access Awareness Awards program, sponsored by the Area 9 Cable Council and the Altice cable company.
The competition, open to students in kindergarten through high school, was open to entries in the following categories: elementary-age students with adult assistance, animation/stop motion, experimental, documentary for high school students, general interest, narrative/fiction entries, news shows, public service announcements and school news story.
The productions were broadcast on the Altice Educational Access Channel 78.
Winners of the “Eddy” (Ed Access) awards from Westport’s public schools include:
“Inklings on the Wreckord,” third place in the High School News Show category. The show was produced by the Advanced Journalism class at Staples High School, taught by Mary Elizabeth Fulco.
“Stress,” second place in the High School Public Service Announcement category. Students Jack Schwartz, Allison Cancro, Pranav Pothukuchi and Sanchit Arora, were supported in the project by Nicole Moeller, co-librarian at Staples High School.
“On the Wreckord — Inklings: World Language Week,” second place in the High School School News Story category, produced by the Staples Advanced Journalism class.
“KHS Buddy Bench,” first place in the Elementary School Public Service Announcement category. Students Brayden Levy, Shane Warshaw, Alexander Wilson and Jude Hix at Kings Highway Elementary School, were support in the project by Tara Doyle, technology teacher.
“Women’s History Month: Community Highlight,” first place in the Elementary School General Interest Story category. Students Harper Bell and Madeline Olsen were supported in the project by teacher Tara Doyle.
“Cheetah Vision Special: Women’s History Community Highlight,” second place in the Elementary School General Interest Story category. Students Jack Bell and Sable Shurman were supported in the project by teacher Tara Doyle.
