WESTPORT — Wires down on Saugatuck Avenue, between Interstate 95 and Treadwell Avenue, closed that stretch of the busy thoroughfare to traffic Monday morning, emergency responders said in an alert just before 11 a.m.

By noontime, northbound traffic was traveling through the affected area.

It wasn’t immediately clear if the wires came down as a result of the morning’s gusty winds, which the National Weather Service warns are expected to clock in well above usual readings throughout the day.

In a “Wind Advisory” that remains in effect until 11 p.m. Monday, the weather service says the region will be buffeted by winds registering at 20 to 30 mph, with occasional gusts from 50 to 55 mph.

By noon, Eversource was reporting 11 power outages in Westport, while nearly 1,800 outages were logged across its statewide customer base at that hour.

Power disruptions can be reported online at Eversource.com or by calling 800-286-2000. Customers who signed up for the power company’s two-way texting feature can send a text to report an outage and receive outage updates as they happen.
