WESTPORT — The Westport Police Benevolent Association’s Scholarship Foundation has awarded scholarships to 19 students this year.

Recipients of the Wilbur scholarship, awarded to Westport police officers’ children, are college applicants who completed community service and maintained a grade-point average of 3.0.

The Deputy Chief John Anastasia Scholarship, presented to a Staples High School senior entering an accredited college with a focus on criminal justice, was awarded to Caleigh Coughlin. She also completed several hours of community service.

The Chief Bill Stefan Scholarship, presented to a Staples High School senior entering an accredited college with a focus on criminal justice and who participated in sports teams and activities during junior and senior years, was awarded to Olivia Stubbs.

All of the scholarships carried a $2,000 award.

The Westport Police Benevolent Association Scholarship Foundation, over the years, has benefited from fundraising by Dennis and Joan Poster, according to the organization’a announcement. Following the death of Dennis Poster last year, Joan Poster “continues to remain involved and supportive of the foundation and it is with her continued generosity that the foundation is able to thrive,” the group said.
