WESTPORT — A deck fire threatening to spread to the main section of a Island Way house early Monday was doused before inflicting significant damage.

The fire, reported about 1:40 a.m. Monday, erupted on a second-floor deck and was beginning to spread into a wall and the home’s mechanicals room, according to the report by Assistant Fire Chief Brian Meadows.

Four fire engines, a rescue truck and the shift commander were dispatched to the scene, assisted by a crew of Norwalk firefighters.

The fire was extinguished quickly by a hose extended from Engine 4, according to the report, with damage confined to the deck area.

The last fire unit left Island Way at about 3:30 a.m.

Cause of the fire is being investigated by the Fire Marshal’s Office.

Westport police and EMS personnel provided support.

Fairfield fire crews covered Westport fire stations while Westport firefighters were at the scene.
