WESTPORT — Applications are being accepted by the town’s Department of Human Services for the 2022 Neighborhood Assistance Act tax-credit program.
The program helps fund municipal and tax-exempt organizations by providing a corporation tax credit for businesses that make cash contributions to a qualified entity. The program is sponsored by the state’s Department of Revenue Services.
The program grants businesses a state tax credit for cash contributions made to qualifying community programs conducted by tax-exempt or municipal agencies.
Among the types of community programs that qualify for the NAA tax-credit program include: energy conservation, employment and training, child-care services, programs helping low-income people, open-space acquisitions, crime-prevention programs and affordable housing development, according to the announcement from Elaine Daignault, the town’s human services director.
The minimum contribution that qualifies for a state tax credit is $250 through the program, while $150,000 is the maximum contribution that a nonprofit or municipal entity can receive.
To participate, each municipal agency or tax-exempt organization must complete the application posted on the Department of Revenue Services website.
Applications then should be mailed to: Elaine Daignault, Director, Westport Department of Human Services, 110 Myrtle Ave., Westport, CT 06880 by Friday, May 20.
The list of participating agencies will be submitted to the Representative Town Meeting for approval at its meeting on Tuesday, June 7.
