WESTPORT — Call them Bards of the Buses.
Winners have been announced in the limerick contest to promote the Wheels2U Wesport shuttle service to and from the town’s railroad stations.
“I was completely overwhelmed with the quantity and quality of the entries,” Peter Gold, the director of the Westport Transit District, said in a statement announcing the winners.
“Once again, the Westport community demonstrated its talent, and great sense of humor. We had over 75 wonderful limericks to choose from.”
Gold selected the winners.
Jonathan Prager was awarded first place for this limerick:
Wheels 2 Me, Wheels 2 U, Wheels 2 Us
Transportation to the station by bus
There and back in a jiffy
In wheels super spiffy
Convenience that’s a plus with no fuss.
Two second-place prizes were presented to Dorian Barth and Paul Delano for these limericks:
The station is not very far.
I wish I could just leave the car,
and be picked up at home
from an app on my phone.
Well, you can! Wheels2U — there you are!

Wheels2U comes right swift,
With a door to door lift.
And sets you back a measly two bucks!
Four limericks, by Marc Frankel, Alan Zipkin, Nicole Goldstein and Scott Weiner, were award third-place prizes:
There once was a Westport commuter,
With a gym bag and laptop computer,
Sick of walking up hills,
He tried the bus for two bills,
And said, “This is warmer than taking my scooter.”

A Westporter owned a fine Subaru
And left home each day with a toodle-oo
But when she parked at the train
She had to wade through the rain
Why didn’t she call Wheels 2U?
