WESTPORT — With hazardous driving conditions expected as rain turns to ice later today, schools will be closed today (Friday, Feb. 4), Supt. of Schools Thomas Scarice announced at 5:30 a.m.

“The decision to close is based on a forecast,” Scarice said, “and the high likelihood of icing during the dismissal period jeopardizes the safety of our students and drivers on the buses.”

The morning’s rain may change to ice later today, according to the “Winter Weather Advisory” issued by the National Weather Service.

The advisory, in effect from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, warns of “slippery” road conditions that could affect commuting both in the morning and this afternoon.

The school district offices, however, will be open today, according to Scarice’s announcement.
