SHELTON — A theatrical adaptation of an unfinished Charles Dickens novel will take the stage this week as Center Stage Theatre begins its run of The Mystery of Edwin Drood.
The first show will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 25th. Performances continue Thursday through Sunday and conclude on Oct. 4th.
The Mystery of Edwin Drood is being presented by the Victorian Music Hall Royale troupe. A musical whodunit framed as a show-within-a-show, the story follows the disappearance of the title character on Christmas Eve and the investigation into the strange circumstances surrounding this event. Audience members will vote to decide the murderer, which in turn will influence which ending the troupe presents.
Dickens had completed roughly half of The Mystery of Edwin Drood prior to his death in 1870, and left no information on his planned conclusion for the novel. Various adaptations have sought to finish the story.
