STAMFORD — A new exhibition at the Stamford Museum & Nature Center will explore how generations of African-American artists have overcome exclusion to gain prominence.
Printmaking and the Unconventional Pathways of African American Artists will be on view through Sept. 6th. The exhibition is presented in association with Raven Fine Art Editions.
When elite academic institutions and traditional patronage networks are unavailable to them, African-American artists have had to rely on other methods to expand their access, reach wider audiences, and gain creative agency. The exhibition notes how printmaking became an integral part of this outreach.
Featuring works by major 20th and 21st century African-American artists, the exhibition was curated by scholar and master printmaker Dr. Curlee Raven Holton and Ananda Holton.
