WESTPORT — The Staples field hockey team, top seed in the Class L State Tournament bracket, toppled visiting No. 16 Stamford 9-1 in the first round Wednesday.

With the winm the Wreckers will host No. 8 Amity of Woodbridge in the quarterfinals at 2 p.m. Friday. Amity is coming off a 4-0 win over No. 9 Conard of West Hartford on Wednesday.

The Staples-Amity winner will face one of two FCIAC teams — No. 4 Fairfield Ludlowe or No. 5 Greenwich, in the semifinals Tuesday (time and location to be determined). Game schedules are subject to change; click for the latest updates.
