WESTPORT–Dylan Hoke’s 14th-minute penalty kick was the difference yesterday at Wakeman Field. The junior’s goal lifted the Staples boys soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Fairfield Ludlowe.
The win lifts the Wreckers’ final regular season record to 7-8-1. They finished in a three-way tie for the eighth and final spot in the FCIAC playoffs. However, Brien McMahon advances, based on their win last week over Staples. The Wreckers finish ninth, thanks to their defeat of Westhill.
The Westporters now look forward to the state LL (extra large schools) tournament, which begins next month. Staples has qualified for that event 63 times, in their 64-year history.
