WESTPORT — The Wreckers met the #2-ranked St. Joseph Cadets at home last night, with high hopes for a second victory of the season.

Those hopes lasted fewer than 30 minutes, as St. Joseph scored four consecutive touchdowns in the first half. These four touchdowns displayed the versatility of a well-balanced offense. St Joseph’s two short quarterback TD runs were sandwiched between a 35-yard run after a hand-off and an option pass touchdown from St. Joseph’s wide receiver, Maxwell Warren.

Wrecker’s QB Ryan Thompson connected with Nick Armentano for a 6-yard TD late in the first half. Staples’ hopes rallied early in the third quarter with a 35-yard TD pass from Thompson to Armentano.

But, after that TD, Staples returned to St Joseph’s red zone twice more in the second half, only to be denied scoring both times.

Final score: St. Joseph 35, Staples 14.

The Wreckers next game is Friday at 7 p.m. at Cheshire.
