WESTPORT–Showing no lag with games on back-to-back nights, and coming off a huge win over Trumbull in a battle for first place, the Staples High boys basketball team won convincingly on Thursday night.
The Wreckers outscored the visiting Danbury Hatters 75-40 to improve to 12-0 in FCIAC play and 17-0 overall; Danbury fell to 0-12 and 2-15.
- Staples put up 22 points in each of the first two quarters for a 44-21 halftime lead. The Wreckers had 33 field goals, 21 of which were assisted. They had eight of the game’s 11 steals and outrebounded the Hatters 37-14.
- Mason Tobias recorded 15 points, four rebounds and a pair of blocks; Austin Heyer had 14 points and four steals; and Dhilan Lowman dropped in 13 points to lead a balanced scoring attack.
- Sam Clachko had nine points, five assists and three rebounds. Jack Jacob had eight points, two assists and six rebounds. Henry Veissid logged six points and five rebounds. Jared Sale recorded two points and five rebounds. Matty Corrigan added four points, three assists and five rebounds.
- Staples visits St. Joseph of Trumbull Tuesday at 7 p.m.
