MILFORD — Tyler DiMaio scored three goals, including the overtime winner, to lift the Staples hockey team to a 4-3 win over Wilton, at Milford Ice Pavilion in Wednesday’s season opener. 

DiMaio completed his hat-trick performance just 1:07 into extra time, assisted by Cooper Paul and Derek Wolgast. 

Goals in the first and third periods by DiMaio gave Staples leads of 2-1 and 3-2. Wilton scored early in the third to send things to OT. 

Paul also scored and finished with a trio of assists. DiMaio, Carter Fass and Harry Goodburn all recorded assists in the win. 

Staples outshot Wilton 35 to 25, and Staples goaltender Aaron Kail made 22 saves. 

Coach Matt Bohn’s Wreckers return to the Milford Ice Pavilion Saturday, Dec. 17 at 6 p.m to take on the Enfield-East Granby-Stafford team.
