The 5-mile course for the annual Thanksgiving Day Race sponsored by the Pequot Runners primarily follows a route through Westport.

WESTPORT — Thousands of runners are expected to flock through the streets Thursday for the 47th organized by the Pequot Runners.

The annual prequel to holiday feasts, which includes both a 5-mile race and a 2.5-mile walk, steps off at 8:15 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 28, at the Wakeman Boys and Girls Club in the Southport section of Fairfield.

While the running club is Fairfield based, the largest segment of the Thanksgiving race follows a route through Westport.

Runners will enter town from Fairfield’s Pequot Avenue onto Beachside Avenue, then follow a course that heads north on Sasco Creek Road, east on Greens Farms Road, northwest on Clapboard Hill Road, south on Maple Avenue South, west on Greens Farms Road, south on New Creek Road, east on Beachside Avenue until re-entering Fairfield on Pequot Avenue.

In a traffic advisory, police estimate that most of the runners will have finished the Westport leg of the race by about 10:30 a.m.

There will be temporary road closures and traffic delays on affected streets throughout the morning, according to police.
