The 14-loss Bridgeport Central Hilltoppers hosted the 11-win Staples Wreckers, following four straight Wrecker wins.
Staples did not disappoint and notched a 40+ point win over the Hilltoppers, 76-32. The large margin of victory afforded playing time for each member of the Staples varsity squad. The young, inexperienced and underclassmen-heavy Hilltoppers, including junior star Isaiah Hemmings, were muffled by the Staples’ defense.
No Hilltopper scored over 10 for the team, while Staples had nearly every player who had action in the game score. In the words of one Staples fan, “it was a complete blowout.”
Staples, now 12-4, will play two games against tough teams this week. They will travel to Trumbull on Monday at 6:15 p.m. to face the St. Joseph Cadets, who have won five in a row. They’ll host the Norwalk Bears on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
