WESTPORT — The No. 2 Staples High field hockey team breezed to a 10-0 triumph over visiting No. 15 Hamden in Wednesday’s Class L State Tournament first round.

Storey Ahl scored three times, Mary Stevens and Tyla Ozgen each put home a pair, and Sofia Fidalgo, Emma Larit and Adela Ardrey all hit the back of the cage once in this scoring barrage.

With the victory, the Wreckers will host FCIAC rival Greenwich in the quarterfinals at 2 p.m. Friday. Greenwich, the No. 7 seed, beat No. 10 Newtown 3-0 in the first round.

Staples got past Greenwich 2-1 in overtime when the teams met late in the regular slate. (Game schedules are subject to change; click for the latest CIAC updates.)
